Sears Helps Indiana Residents Access Up to $1,000 In Rebates On ENERGY STAR®-Qualified Heating and Cooling Equipment

Sears Also Enhances Sears.com/energystar Web Site

Sears Home Services™ is helping Indiana residents access the $6,118,000 in rebates available for ENERGY STAR®-qualified heating and cooling systems as part of the "Cash for Appliances" rebate program. As the 2010 ENERGY STAR® Retail Partner of the Year, Sears has created online tools, including an interactive map and energy savings rebate calculator at Sears.com/energystar, which will help Hoosiers manage the rebate process and find all the stimulus rebates they qualify for under the state's program guidelines. The Sears site will also display all ENERGY STAR products that qualify for rebates so customers can quickly and easily identify models that are available for in-store purchase.

"At Sears, we're always looking for ways to make it easier and more affordable for Americans to swap out their old, inefficient appliances for new, ENERGY STAR-qualified models," said Stuart Reed, senior vice president and president of Sears Home Services. "This rebate money will go quickly, so we encourage our customers in Indiana to take advantage of the stimulus plan as early as possible to ensure access to the state funds."

Under the U.S. Department of Energy-approved appliance rebate plan for Indiana, called the "Indiana Heating and Air-Conditioning Incentive Program (IHIP)," consumers purchasing ENERGY STAR-qualified heating and cooling systems qualify for rebates from $150 to $1,000(I). As part of IHIP, Hoosiers are required to replace an existing heating or cooling system with a new, ENERGY STAR-qualified model and provide the required documentation in order to qualify for the following rebates:

-- $150 for central air conditioners (14.5 SEER or greater)
-- $300 for gas furnaces (92 % annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE)
      rating or greater
-- $500 for gas boilers (85% AFUE or greater)
  -- $500 for air-source heat pumps (8.2 HSPF; 14.5 SEER or greater)
-- $1,000 for qualified ground-source heat pump (3.3 COP or greater for
      closed loop)

For Hoosier homeowners interested in purchasing energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR-qualified whole house heating and cooling systems, Sears Home Services will assist shoppers from start to finish. They can:

-- Provide information about which systems qualify for state rebates
      online at Sears.com/energystar
-- Direct consumers to 1-800-766-6298 to arrange an in-home appointment

The Sears project consultant who performs the home visit will provide details at that time on eligible ENERGY STAR-qualified HVAC systems and applicable rebates. The project consultant will also supply the required forms and certificates so the Indiana homeowner can apply for the appropriate rebates. After installation of the new, ENERGY STAR-qualified system is complete, Sears Home Services will dispose of the old, inefficient HVAC unit according to the appropriate Indiana State laws.
