Sears Promotes Selby to Senior Vice President of Marketing
Sears, Roebuck and Co. today announced the promotion of David W. Selby to senior vice president of Marketing, reporting directly to Alan J. Lacy, Sears chairman and chief executive officer. Selby succeeds Mark A. Cohen, who has been appointed chairman and chief executive officer of Sears Canada.
Effective immediately, Selby, 44, is responsible for all of Sears marketing, advertising and brand management activities.
"David is clearly an experienced marketing executive who has added significantly to the marketing direction of Sears," Lacy said. "He has had many rich experiences prior to Sears, and we anticipate that his strong leadership here will continue as we move our brand forward."
Reporting to Selby are Becky Case, vice president of Advertising and Creative Services; Gilbert Davila, vice president of Multicultural Marketing; Andy Ginger, vice president of Brand Management; Perianne Grignon, director of Media Services; Kevin Jackson, vice president of Marketing for Hardware Stores; Brian Kelly, vice president of Marketing for Automotive; Tom Kendall, vice president of Retail Marketing; John Lebbad, director of Event Marketing and Sales Promotion; Ann Raives, vice president of Customer Information, Planning Analysis and Control; and Susan Swanger, director of Visual Marketing.
Selby joined Sears in 1997 as vice president of Marketing Services and was promoted in January 1999 to senior vice president of Retail Marketing. In this position, he oversaw all marketing strategy, planning and execution for all Sears retail business formats. In addition, he was responsible for all of Sears advertising, media, production, sales promotion, event marketing, sports marketing, multicultural marketing, customer relationship marketing and marketing operations.
Previously, Selby held a number of senior positions with The Leo Burnett Company. He completed his 18 years at Leo Burnett as senior vice president and account director on the McDonald's USA account.
Selby earned a bachelor's degree from Amherst College and a master's degree from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is on the board of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, coaches seventh grade basketball and kindergarten soccer, and is an elected member of the vestry of St. David's Episcopal Church in Glenview, Ill. He, his wife Laura, and their three children reside in Glenview.
